Marie Anne Golly
Marie Anne Golly Married Jean Haller on August 16, 1829 in Alsace, France. Jean Haller had looked to the Republic of Texas for more opportunities for his growing family. He signed up to emigrate as a Castro Colonist. Henry Castro was advertising chiefly in France for colonists to fulfill the requirements of the Castro Colony Contract.
The Haller’s left Strasbourg by way of Antwerp on November 22, 1843 and settled in Castroville, Medina County, TX. Marie Anne Haller was already a bona fide Texan by the time Henry Christian arrived!
Castroville, the “little Alsace” of Texas, is located on the Medina River. The town was named for its founder, Henri Castro, with whom the Republic of Texas negotiated an empresario contract on January 15, 1842.
