John Newton Scott

John Newton Scott was born in Hickman County, Tennessee in 1825.  He moved to Texas in 1838 and married Susan Womack in 1844.  They settled in Montgomery County in Longstreet (which is a Texas ghost town).   He ran a mercantile store &  had 13 children.

 John Newton was the son of James Scott who helped finance David Crockett in his race for Congress in his native Tennessee.  After Crockett left for Texas, James heard the call of the new country also and moved his family to Texas.  John Newton was his oldest son.
