Jacob Wilheim Kring came to Texas with his family in 1845.  Shortly after the arrival of the family his father, mother and only brother died.  He made his home with the Welder family but was never formally adopted.  It was while living with the Welder’s that Jacob was kidnapped by the Indians in 1846.
