George Franklin Daniell

Bethel Baptist Church Historial Marker
George Franklin Daniell came to Texas in early 1838 with his wife Sylvania Pearce Daniell, five children born in several different states while moving West.  His Mother Hannah Martha Brantley and Father Nathaniel C. Daniell were in the same party.  His father Mr. Daniels was killed by Indians at Spring Creek near Victoria in 1840.  Sylvania had a son George Franklin Daniell in September of 1838 in Gonzales County.  George Daniell received Land Certificate No. 20 for 640 Acres on June 25, 1839 in Gonzales County.  The Family moved into several other counties during the Republic years because Reverend George Daniell was actively starting up Primitive Baptist Churches. The Bethel Primitive Baptist in Caldwell County, the Sulpher Springs Church in Moulton and in 1853 the San Marcos Primitive Baptist Church was constituted.  Two of the Charter members were Sylvania Daniell and Hannah Daniell his mother.  The Daniell name has been spelled in different ways in Texas History.  Sometimes as Daniel and Daniels, they are still misspelled today.George and Sylvania Daniell are both buried in a small cemetery in the front yard of a home at 313 Towhee Drive, Buda, TX.  His daughter Mary Ann married Alfred Winters.  This Cemetery is named The Winters Cemetery because it has 3 Winters family members in it also!
