Gottfried Christopher Rohde and his wife Katharina Margareta Burmester, members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Molln, Germany were the parents of nine children. Three single sons came to Texas, probably entering through the Port of Galveston. Adolph Rohde settled in Frelsburg, Colorado County, Republic of Texas, where he met and married the widow, Elizabeth Theis Loebnitz. Together they owned and operated a general store in Frelsburg. When Adolph died in 1867 he was buried in the east side of the cemetery behind Trinity Lutheran Church in Frelsburg. It is a single grave with tombstone and bears a Citizen of the Republic of Texas marker.
